Volkswagen has updated the Tiguan and Tiguan Allspace in the United Kingdom with the addition of a petrol engine and a couple of new trim levels.
With 2.0 liters in capacity, the new TSI unit pushes out 230 PS (227 hp / 169 kW) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque. The automaker says that it enables the SUV to sprint to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.3 seconds, before topping out at 229 km/h (142 mph).
The new petrol burner is available in the SEL and new R-Line Tech trim levels, and comes as standard with the brand’s 4Motion all-wheel drive system and a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox. It has a combined WLTP-approved 36.7 mpg UK (7.7 l/100 km / 30.6 mpg US), and emits 175 g/km of CO2. Pricing for the Tiguan SEL equipped with this engine starts at £35,820 ($45,691/€39,767).

There’s also a new Match trim level out, which replaces the SE and SE Nav grades, adding 19-inch Victoria alloy wheels, keyless entry, reversing camera and park assist. It can be had from £26,750 ($34,121/€29,698) with front-wheel drive and a six-speed manual gearbox, powered by the 1.5-liter TSI that pushes out 130 PS (128 hp / 95 kW). The 190 PS (187 hp / 140 kW) 2.0-liter diesel, with AWD and DSG gearbox, has an MSRP of £34,770 ($44,351/€38,601).
Replacing the R-line is the new R-Line Tech grade. This variant adds an electric tailgate, keyless entry, area view display and park assist, and is available with the 150 PS (148 hp / 110 kW) 1.5-liter TSI and an automatic gearbox, as well as the 230 PS (227 hp / 169 kW) 2.0-liter TSI. Pricing starts at £33,150 ($42,285/€36,803) and £38,335 ($48,899/€42.559), respectively. More engines are said to follow in due course.
“The Tiguan is already a favorite with UK car buyers, being our third-best-selling model behind the Golf and Polo. This addition of over £1,000 of extra equipment and extra value only strengthens its case”, said Product Manager Brian Luckie. “With this equipment included, not only is the Tiguan better value, but even more convenient. And the addition of a new, range-topping petrol engine adds further appeal.”
Deliveries of the new Tiguan and Tiguan Allspace Match and R-Line Tech will commence later this month.
