Toyota says that the market for hybrids is red-hot right now, so it isn’t a surprise that its handsome Prius Prime hasn’t changed much for 2024. Although prices have risen in the new model year, the MSRP has only gone up by up to $325.
Once again offered in three grades, SE, XSE, and XSE Premium, prices for the plug-in hybrid Prius start at $33,770 (all prices include $1,095 destination charge). Although that’s $325 more than it cost a year ago, that’s unlikely to concern shoppers.
Toyota has decided to increase prices across the range, with the $37,020 Prius Prime XSE now starting at $325 more than it did a year ago. However, the $40,465 XSE Premium starts at just $200 more than it did in 2023.
While the price increase is small, it comes with little in the way of upgrades. However, the 2024 model does now get a new standard digital driver’s display for a head-up line of site, a novel Integrated Streaming feature that allows owners to connect their Apple or Amazon Music accounts to the car, as well as a new lock and unlock chime that is designed to be pleasant and distinctive. Otherwise, the Prius Prime is more or less the same as it was last year.
That means that under the hood, it features a 2.0-liter engine that produces 150 hp (112 kW/152 PS) and an electric motor that makes 161 hp (120 kW/163 PS). Together, they combine to offer customers up to 220 hp (164 kW/223 PS) and 139 lb-ft (188 Nm) of torque, which can get the car to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 6.6 seconds.
Power for the electric motor comes from a 13.6 kWh lithium-ion battery that offers up to 44 miles (70 km) of all-electric range and up to 52 MPG combined for the SE trim. Meanwhile, the XSE and XSE Premium grades get 39 miles (63 km) of range.
For 2024, the Prius Prime will be offered with six paint color options. The standard shades are Cutting Edge, Guardian Gray, Midnight Black Metallic, and Reservoir Blue. For a little extra, buyers can get Wind Chill Pearl or Supersonic Red paint.
Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is also standard on the 2024 model, which offers pre-collision and pedestrian detection, lane departure alerts with steering assist, adaptive cruise control, lane tracing assist, road sign assist, automatic high beams, and more.
The 2024 Prius Prime is expected to hit Toyota dealerships in the coming weeks.
