New Ford Fiesta ST 2019 review – see why it’s NOT quite the perfect hot hatch

This is the all-new Ford Fiesta ST. It certainly packs a punch when it comes to performance, but do you think Ford is offering the complete package with the latest edition of the ST? The previous-gen Ford Fiesta ST was one of the most praised hot hatches in the market and that puts a tremendous amount of pressure on the new model, which is now launched in Europe (sorry US, no Fiesta ST for you).

The switch to a new turbocharged three-cylinder 1.5-liter engine is one of the highlights here, with the new Fiesta ST now offering 197hp (200PS) and 213lb-ft (290Nm) of peak torque.

The new engine also features a cylinder deactivation system for improved fuel economy, while an active exhaust helps it provide an engaging soundtrack. 0-62mph (100km/h) comes in 6.5 seconds, 0.4 seconds faster than the outgoing model, while top speed is rated at 144 mph (232 km/h).

The new Fiesta ST’s suspension uses special force vectoring springs in order to make the small hot hatch handle more sharply and provide a better feedback to the driver. Purists will also be pleased to hear that Ford is offering a mechanical Quaife limited-slip differential and a Launch Control system in the options list – and with that kind of power, we’d definitely tick the box for the LSD.

There are also three different drive modes to choose from: Normal, Sport and Track. The modes alter the engine’s response, steering, exhaust and stability control.
