Pricing details for the 2024 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 have finally been announced for the Australian market and as we expected, it’s very expensive.
Sold through General Motors Specialty Vehicles (GMSV), the Corvette Z06 will set back buyers AU$336,000 ($228,795) plus on-road costs, meaning it will likely cost over AU$350,000 ($238,329) to actually buy, register and drive on local roads. This represents a AU$146,000 ($99,417) premium over the most expensive Corvette Stingray model currently on offer.
The price isn’t the only piece of bad news. Corvette Z06 models coming to Australia are the same as those sold in Europe, meaning the 5.5-liter naturally-aspirated V8 has been re-tuned from the 500 kW (670 hp) and 624 Nm (460 lb-ft) it delivers in the U.S. to 475 kW (637 hp) and 595 Nm (439 lb-ft). Additionally, the presence of new petrol particulate filters also means the Aussie car lacks the center exhausts and instead has exhausts at the corners of the rear bumper, like the standard C8.
GMSV is bringing just a single trim level of the Corvette Z06 to Australia, namely the flagship 3LZ Coupe. It includes standard features like a carbon fiber steering wheel, leather trim on the doors and instrument panels, Chevy’s GT2 sport bucket seats, and carbon fiber paddle shifters. The Z07 Performance Pack will also be available but it is not yet clear how much it will cost. It adds features like an enlarged rear wing, front canards, a more pronounced front splitter, carbon ceramic brake discs, and Michelin tires.
GMSV has indicated that just a limited number of cars are heading Down Under.
“Due to incredible global demand, the Corvette Z06 is a measured volume proposition, in keeping with its exclusive nature, availability will be very controlled,” GMSV director Greg Rowe told Drive. “We appreciate this may disappoint many performance enthusiasts, but at the same time it will ensure those who do become a Z06 owner will know they possess a very special piece of automotive folklore.”
While pricey, the Corvette Z06 remains good value in Australia compared to the alternatives. It is a touch more expensive than the significantly less powerful Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS that’s available from AU$311,900 ($212,385) before on-road costs and undercuts the hybrid $449,500 ($306,082) McLaren Artura by almost $120,000 (~$81,700).
